When Typhoons Tino and Uwan devastated the Philippines in November 2025, they exposed more than the power of climate change, revealing decades of corruption, failed infrastructure, and government abandonment that turned storms into catastrophe. KALIKASAN (Tagalog for "nature") gathers Filipino and diaspora artists, scientists, and organizers for an evening of witness, truth-telling, and collective action in support of typhoon relief efforts for disaster victims in the Philippines.
Panel Discussion (5-6:30pm): "No More Floods, No More Lies: A Climate Justice Conversation" brings together journalists, organizers, climate scientists, and disaster medicine experts examining systemic failures and diaspora responsibility.
Performance (7pm): Kinding Sindaw & Concerned Artists of the Philippines NY (CAPNY) takes the stage with dances, songs, and art in motion.
All proceeds benefit Alibyo Cebu - Ayuda Network, a grassroots coalition of workers, farmers, students, and health workers providing community kitchens and direct aid to typhoon survivors, and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON), supporting advocacy and organizing work on the ground in the Philippines.
More than a performance or exhibition, KALIKASAN is a practice of solidarity, transforming collective grief into action, diaspora resources into relief, and community gathering into sustained commitment to justice.

ABOUT KALIKASAN
The Association of Filipino Scientists in American (AFSA) previously hosted Kalikasan: The Philippines and the Climate Crisis on Earth Day 2023, featuring Mitzi Jonelle Tan, International Spokesperson of Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines (YACAP). That event examined the climate crisis in the Philippines through interactive discussion on devastating typhoons, mining operations, US military bases and the environment, and attacks on environmental defenders. This iteration of Kalikasan transforms that educational foundation into direct mutual aid and community response.

ABOUT
To celebrate Filipino-American history month in October, this engaging hands-on workshop invites children to explore the foundational sounds of traditional percussion using natural instruments: the resonant gong, the earthy wood blocks, and the melodic bamboo tones. Participants will be introduced to the basic rhythmic patterns and musical rhymes rooted in indigenous traditions. Designed to activate sensory perception and visual imagination, this immersive experience awakens each child’s connection to southern Philippines sound, rhythm, and movement. Through guided play, storytelling, and interactive soundscapes, children will learn to listen, feel, and respond — preparing them for beginner classes in cultural music and dance.

"Alagaan ang Salaysay" Exhibit
"Alagaan ang Salaysay," which highlights stories from Filipino nurses, which includes our Founder and Artistic Director, Potri Ranka Manis.
Flux Factory is pleased to present A l a g a a n a n g S a l a y s á y, a solo exhibition by Maureen Catbagan.
The exhibition runs from October 4 - November 2, 2025 with an opening reception on Saturday, October 4, 6:00 - 9:00 pm, accompanied by performances from Cordillera Cultural Ensemble (CCE) and Kinding Sindaw.
In A l a gaan an g S al a ysá y (Take Care of the Story), artist Maureen Catbagan reimagines monuments through the living voices and personal stories of Filipino nurses. Catbagan began with conversations within the community, where familial words tita (aunt), ate (sister), and kuya (brother) are terms of care, respect, and nurturing regardless of blood relation. The stories became shorthand for the cultural and emotional infrastructure that nurses have built, one patient at a time.
The work’s historical backdrop is equally vital. The 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, which abolished the national origins quota system, opened the door for skilled workers from the Philippines. By the 1970s, faced with severe staffing shortages, American hospitals were actively recruiting nurses from Manila and beyond. Many settled near the New York City area, creating communities where nursing was not only an occupation but also a family legacy.
This legacy was tested—and in many ways revealed—during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Filipino nurses found themselves on the frontlines of an unprecedented public health crisis. They faced grueling hours, emotional and physical exhaustion, and a constant risk to their own lives.Their work was courageous but also under-recognized, a fact that motivates Catbagan’s desire to “take care of the story.”
At Flux IV , visitors are invited to sit, listen, and read the nurses’ stories vocally. It’s an act of deep listening and verbal exchange that transforms storytelling into a kind of collective sculpture—monuments made of breath, attention, and memory. In this space, the distance between storyteller, listener, and subject collapses.
The stories themselves are as varied as the nurses who tell them: moments of homesickness, of humor, of loss and triumph. Together, they create a portrait of caregiving as a form of cultural endurance—an inheritance passed down not only through bloodlines but also through acts of service, compassion, and care. By turning the reading of these accounts into the artwork itself, Catbagan flips the usual relationship between monument and viewer. Here, the monument speaks—and the visitor becomes part of the structure simply by listening.
M a ur e e n C a t b a g a n : A l a g a a n a n g S a l a y s á y is presented as part of the artist’s 2025 NYSCA Fellowship.

District 3 Leadership Summit
⭐️LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2025⭐️
💫You've got mail! 📧 What's up, D3? We are so happy to announce this year’s LEADERSHIP SUMMIT. the theme this year is “Taas Noo Kahit Kanino”, which translates to “Holding my Head High to Anyone”. Joined by @kindingsindaw, we hope that you all join us in this summit reflecting on our pride as Filipinos and all who came before us, especially in the face of struggle.
✨ Details!
Date: Saturday September 27th, 2025
Time: 12:45PM-6:00PM
Location: Pace University, 15 Beekman St. , New York, NY 10038
Room: Bianco Room, Third Floor
💫 FIND District lll’s 2025 Leadership Summit theme of “Taas Noo Kahit Kanino” seeks to address the disconnect that can arise between culture and club, as well as finding out why you, community leaders in D3, chose to serve in your position. “Taas Noo Kahit Kanino“ translates to “Holding my Head High to Anyone,“ serving as a reminder to acknowledge the culture we come from and to not only celebrate it, but take pride in it, openly and unapologetically.
💫 Filipinos are proud people, contributing to breaking the chains of both centuries of colonization and overcoming a stifling dictatorship. The Philippines has always fought for what’s best for their people, and continued to spread the culture despite numerous attempts by foreign influences to try and oppress it or control it. Even now, most of D3 are children of / are direct immigrants from the Philippines. A culture from across the world is somehow still continued and perpetuated here and it’s our doing, as well as our parents, and those that came before them. Though times are much different from when our predecessors fought through physical hardships, how will you continue that fight in the modern day, and be proud of your role as a leader?
